Kseniya Simonova is a sand animator who won first place for the 2009 series on Ukraine's Got Talent http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=518XP8prwZo You go Kseniya! Thanks Jessica Z. for showing me this! Kseniya uses sand to depict the life during World War II, when the USSR fought the Great Patriotic War against the Third Reich. A camera shoots at a birds-eye angle above Kseniya as she sifts sand into images on a lighted table. The camera's footage is shot on a huge screen behind her and captures her live at work from a more dramatic perspective. 
It would be great telling stories this way, especially when telling it to kids! The way those magical storytellers do in those picturebooks... I wish I could try it :)
